Cache Angler's Events

Hello Fellow Cache Anglers!

Here is a bit of an update on some of our current Cache Angler happenings.

Here's an update from our Outings Chairman Brian O'Quinn

Cache Anglers:

Due to the upcoming Sportsman's Expo this weekend in SLC the Black Canyon trip has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 27th. We will meet at the north-west corner of the Logan WalMart parking lot at 8:00am and caravan up there. You will need an Idaho fishing license, waders, and your usual fishing gear. I would bring some small dry flies (sz.22 - 24 Parachute Adams) and some size 20-24 midges (disco, zebra). We can stop in Preston to pick up licenses for those who need them. Also don't forget a lunch. E-mail me if you have any questions.

Upcoming outings:

April 16th - Fishing Willard Bay for spring Catfish.

May 22nd - Fishing Mantua for some top water Bass and Bluegill action.

We'll keep you posted as to the details of these upcoming outings. If you have any suggestions or ideas regarding outings please e-mail Brian at boquinn1@comcast.net.

Youth Fishing Education - Volunteers Needed!

Youth fishing educationThe Cache Anglers, The City of Logan, and the DWR have teamed together to conduct an 8 week Youth Urban Fishing Program for youth ages 6 to 13. But we need volunteers to help us run the program. If you know anything about fishing and would like to help a bunch of children excited to learn how to fish, please come and help. Each week, instruction will be presented on various aspects on fishing techniques, knots, ecology, entomology, fish species and the environment. Following the presentations will be open fishing time. Youth may use provided fishing equipment or can bring their own. Each child will get their own fishing manual and t-shirt. The cost is only $5.00 per child.

There will be a meeting with the DWR Feb 23rd for all volunteers at the USU Water Research Lab- 1600 Canyon Rd (6-8PM), and the fishing program starts April 8 (Thursdays), you can register your children at either the Smithfield or Logan Recreation center starting March 2nd!

This is a great opportunity for the youth of Cache Valley but the number of youth we can enroll is limited by how many volunteers we have. If you are interested in volunteering or need more information please contact Chris Thomas at 797-3759 or 752-0978 or Chris.Thomas@usu.edu.

Youth fly tyingThere also will be a Cache Anglers Caddisfly Youth Fishing Education Series. It will start in February with a three-week Youth Fly-Tying Course taught by Stefanie Hullinger. The course will be held Thursday evenings on the 5th, 12th, and 19th of February from 6:30pm until 8:00 pm at the Utah Water Research Lab on Canyon Road below 1st Dam on the Logan River. You are welcome to bring them and just drop them off or stick around and watch their excitement as they create their own killer trout fly. Just don't forget to pick them up again if you drop them off.

Materials and equipment will be provided by the DWR, but if your youngsters have their own gear already they are more than welcome to tie with it. The course is designed for youth between 8 - 16 years old and will be limited to the first 10 enrolled. Enrollment will be $10.00 per youth with all money going to local TU conservation projects.
